A Review...Beachbody On Demand

As a health coach, part of my job is staying up to date on current health issues, trends, and research, and being educated about the options available to help us get healthy and stay healthy. Being physically active is a vital part of health.
I love the idea of gym membership, fitness classes, and personal trainers. If you are first starting a fitness regimen, the guidance and accountability they provide are invaluable, and if you've been at it for a while they can help you take it to the next level. If you have the opportunity to work with a trainer or an attentive and helpful class instructor...do it.
But, what if, like me, you live nowhere near a gym? What if you can't afford membership or class fees in your current budget? What if it isn't feasible to hire a sitter so you can go and workout?
I recently decided to try out Beachbody on Demand, or BOD. This is a streaming service offered by Beachbody (think Insanity, P90X, Cize, etc) for a monthly subscription fee...much like Netflix. They offer a free 30 day trial, so I tried out their three week yoga program.
Here are my thoughts...
It's convenient. I personally connect my laptop to my television, but have used just the laptop during a recent period of housesitting. Wherever you are, whenever you are ready to workout...it's there.
It offers variety. BOD offers all of the Beachbody programs to stream from one place. The newer programs (like the PiYo I recently purchased) are premium content that you must purchase in order to stream, but there are more free (included) programs than not. You can find a workout based on intensity and type of workout.
It allows you to experiment/experience. If you're like me,you think you want to try every workout program you see advertised. I have workout DVDs sitting on the shelf that I tried once and abandoned. I have some that I enjoy, but just got burned out on. I have others that I love, but just can't handle the intensity or impact level of with my leg just yet...so they are gathering dust. BOD offers enough variety that you can find workouts you actually want to do, without forking over funds for those you don't enjoy. I never thought I would enjoy yoga at all. The yoga program on BOD proved me very wrong...I love it! I've always wanted to learn Tai Chi, and there is a detailed program to teach just that. I can also stream my PiYo program since I purchased the DVDs.
It offers (some) accountability. Each time I log in, it shows how many workouts I've completed in the past week. I'm excited when the number is seven (or more!), and when it's not, I have a little motivation to do more than one workout that day to get it there.
It's affordable. If you pay for six or twelve months up front, you get a price break, but for little more than that Netflix subscription you can have access to great workouts anytime, anywhere.
Only you can decide if something like Beachbody on Demand would be a worthwhile investment for you. If you aren't sure, I would certainly recommend signing up for the free trial to see for yourself. If you know someone that sells Beachbody, help them out and sign up through them. If you don't, I can refer you to a friend of mine if you'd like.
Whether it's signing up (and using!) BOD, taking group classes, working one on one with a trainer, or just walking each day with a friend...just get moving!
